Dan Camp

Reverend Dan Camp joined the pastoral team of First United Methodist Church as Senior Pastor in July 2017.
Pastor Dan is a native of Norcross, Georgia. He and Lane Gardner Camp have known each other since high school and were married in September of 1980. Lane is also employed by the United Methodist Church and serves as the Memphis Conference Director of Communications. They have two children: Whitney (husband, Daniel) Picard who live in Washington, D.C. and , “J.D” or James (as he is known professionally) who lives in Miami, Florida. They have one granddaughter, Elise Picard, who receives a great deal of their time and attention.

Dan graduated from Georgia Tech’s College of Management and had a career in the hotel industry before full-time ministry. Over time, he became more and more involved with leadership in the United Methodist Church—holding positions in local congregations such as Lay leader and Chairperson of Staff-Parish. In 1996, he “heard the call”, returned to seminary and graduated with the Master of Divinity from Memphis Theological Seminary in 1999 where he was also awarded the “Award for Excellence in Evangelism”.

Covington is Dan’s fifth appointment in his almost twenty years of full-time service to the United Methodist Church. He served on the staff of Germantown (TN) UMC as Senior Associate Pastor (1998-2004) and has served as Senior Pastor to the following congregations:  Alamo-Center UMC (2004—2007), Milan First UMC (2007-2010), Jackson First UMC (2010-2017).

Dan is a strong proponent of “equipping the saints” for the work of the ministry and constantly looks for ways to utilize the gifts God has given the laity.
