Tim Carpenter

Tim Carpenter is our Senior Pastor, serving at Covington First UMC since June 2007. Tim and his wife, Dawn, have been married since 1988, and they have two sons.

He previously served as Pastor of First United Methodist Church of Bolivar, TN (2000-2007), as Associate Pastor of First United Methodist Church in Jackson, TN. (1995-2000), and as Pastor of Poplar Grove United Methodist Church in Drummonds, TN (1993-1995).

Tim earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Florida in 1988 and a Master of Divinity (magna cum laude) from Memphis Theological Seminary in 1993. He was ordained a Deacon in 1993 and an Elder in 1995. His passion is teaching and preaching the Good News of Jesus Christ, with an emphasis on understanding the scripture in the context of its culture that we might better apply God's teaching to our lives today. He is the co-author of two books, Children's Sermons A-Z and The Big Influence of Small Things.
